Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, has been officially nominated to contest as the Katakwi District Woman Member of Parliament on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking after her nomination, Alupo thanked the Electoral Commission for conducting a transparent and efficient exercise.
“I thank the National Electoral Commission for the transparency and efficiency with which they are handling the nomination process. I also call upon the people of Katakwi District to support me as they have always done, through the campaign period until we secure victory in January next year,” she said.
She urged all candidates and their supporters nationwide to maintain peace during campaigns, stressing that peaceful participation is essential for Uganda’s stability and democracy.
“I urge all candidates, their supporters, and the public to prioritize peace during the campaigns and the election period. We must compete with ideas, not violence,” she added.
Alupo reaffirmed her commitment to women and youth empowerment, highlighting her work promoting gender parity and policies that improve women’s economic status.
“As Vice President, I will continue advocating for gender balance in leadership positions. Women should stand shoulder to shoulder with men in business and decision-making. Together we work faster, better, and more effectively,” she said.
She also emphasized the importance of education for girls and children, pledging support for initiatives that ensure every child completes school.
Alupo announced that President Museveni will visit the Teso sub-region at the end of October, starting in Napak on October 30 before heading to Katakwi on November 1.
She called on residents to welcome him in large numbers.
The Vice President highlighted government projects benefiting the Teso region under NRM, including new ferries to improve connectivity, a public university, and ongoing investments in health, education, and security.
Alupo further reiterated her commitment to implementing the NRM manifesto in Katakwi, prioritizing peace and security, universal education, functional health centres, and empowerment programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the Women Fund.
“We have a clear roadmap that captures the priorities of our people, from better infrastructure to women’s economic empowerment. I will continue working with all stakeholders to ensure Katakwi and Uganda move forward together,” she said.
